The Showcase

Panel, partnership, results.

The event title card on a deep-blue background: 'ECCU' above the flags of the eight ECCU member territories; 'Step Into the Future of Youth Innovation'; '2026 ECCU Chatbot & Multimedia Showcase and Closing Ceremony'; three icons captioned 'Innovate. Create.', 'Collaborate. Solve.' and 'Transform. Together.'; '28 August 2026 · 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. · Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium – ECCB, St. Christopher (St. Kitts) and Nevis'; and 'Streamed live on ECCB Connects Facebook/ECCB Connects YouTube'. Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) headquarters, 28 August 2026, half past eight in the morning, streamed on ECCB Connects. Mrs Sybil Welsh, Senior Project Specialist at the ECCB and the camp's project manager, took the room. The opening prayer, by Mrs Francisca Cindy Dorius of St Lucia, was given in English and Mandarin.

The guest list read like a regional summit rather than a camp closing. H.E. Harriet Cross, Governor of Montserrat. Hon. Veronica Dorsett-Hector, Minister of Infrastructure, Utilities and Labour. H.E. Edward Tao, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to St Kitts and Nevis. H.E. Nicole Su, Ambassador to St Lucia, represented by Deputy Consul Ricardo Chu. Dr Tracy Polius, Chief Director of Policy at the ECCB. Beverly Mendez, Permanent Secretary for Education in Montserrat. Paul Maxwell of St Patrick's Co-operative Credit Union. Ms Fan of the Taiwan Embassy, and Roy Lo of the Taiwan Technical Mission. Governor Timothy Antoine was acknowledged in the vote of thanks.

The panel

Not, as the teams were carefully told, a panel of engineers — a regional technical panel. Dr David Farrell, Principal of the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology & Hydrology (CIMH), as chief judge. Dyson Lau and Horace Lashley, also of the Institute. Amani Richardson, a high-school IT teacher and President of the Anguilla National Youth Council. And Ray-wen, Project Manager of the Technical Mission of the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) in St Lucia.

The bar

The questions were real ones. Vibe-coding against hand-written Python. What still fails. Prompt injection and rogue-agent defence. How the time savings were benchmarked.

The teams answered with engineering candour — edge-case bugs, agents that got tangled up, deployments waiting on client APIs — rather than with claims they could not support. Several of the strongest moments in this book are teams volunteering their own limitations to a judge who had not yet found them.

The close

The vote of thanks was given by Shannon of St Vincent and the Grenadines, team leader of the 2026 winning chatbot, W.E.S. Tribute was paid to Anna-Kay of St Lucia, the programme's certification architect. Then an all-hubs group photograph, and Farrell's send-off: setbacks are standard, and feedback is fuel.

On a navy background beneath the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank logo: the headline 'ECCU Youth Harness AI Skills to Develop Solutions for Real-World Challenges' and the line 'Young innovators from across the ECCU showcased AI-powered chatbots and multimedia projects at the closing ceremony of the 2026 ECCU Generative AI and Python Summer Camp.' Beside it, a photograph of campers and guests standing together in rows on the auditorium stage.
